Generally, you should donate when your Donation Status Number (DSN) drops below -50.
A $5.00 donation will give you 50 DSN points (One DSN point equals $0.10).
Keeping your DSN at "0" is the ideal situation, but making sure your DSN is between -50 and +50 is sufficient.
